Climate Camp Cafe gets go-ahead

The Cafe is definitely going ahead, as we've presented the proposal to a Climate Camp gathering and consensus was reached. This is quite a major milestone, and we now have help from the site working group (the people who make the camp a physical reality) in getting a marquee hired. Now we need to worry about what to put in the marquee, and getting the word out to as many Christians as possible.

The debate took much longer than the facilitators of the gathering expected it to, as various people had concerns. These ranged from practical concerns and worries that many more cafe's would want to get involved, and the site would become swamped with them, to a few concerns about the role of religion in politics, which still need ironing out at the Oxford gathering in June. A statement on how the camp defines who can get involved is to be written, and we'll have a hand in this.

But what was amazing was the support received: it seems dozens of people were praying about it and we got really helpful advice before the meeting, and support during it, from a whole bunch of atheists who had nothing to gain by standing up for us (except cups of tea!). Something like 50 out of 65 people at the gathering either supported the proposal or thought felt it was fine to let us get on with our thing!

All this goes to prove what a new thing we're upto with this cafe project and how exciting its going to be when it all comes together. See you at the Camp!
